On Saturday 15th July, Princesshay Square came alive with music, dance and laughter with Dancing in the Streets Festival, hosted and organised by Mandi Cox of Vibes Dance Company.
The day was jam packed full of dance, with people and kids of all ages. All dancing to raise money for Children's Hospice South West and to have the opportunity to showcase their talent to our city.
Onlookers were encouraged to join in with Swagga Fit and Zumba with Mandi and FitSteps with Linda. While between workshops there were outstanding performances from children and adults, it gave such diversity and schools and crews from all over East Devon came along and brought with them their love of dance.
Performers included DanSci Dance Studio's Street Stars, East Devon Dance Academy, Freestyle Fever, Urban Flow, Strut your Stuff, Booiaka and Vibes very own MJC Choreography.
While between sets the dancers and crowds had the opportunity to listen to local talented musician Luke Blaber with his chilled acoustic tones.
"It was a fantastic day, and i am blown away by the talent. There was something for everyone, from our crazy Swagga Fit where literally anyone can join in and do what you like, to the talented and perfected routines from the local dance schools.
People from the crowds joined in too, and the finale was the icing on the cake, when everyone joined in from the whole day and performed Galway Girl.
"I am very proud of what I have achieved, DITS started way back in 2010, and now i organise it on my own. Every year it gets bigger and bigger. I wanted my dancers and other local dance schools to have the opportunity to take to the streets and showcase what they can do, let the people of our city see it and to burst our city into life, while raising money in the process. i think it is wonderful what we have achieved and I hope that it will be something we can do every year that will grow and be something people come to see. Massive thanks to Princesshay, CHSW and everyone that took part on the day, and especially my family, friends and dancers who without them none of this would happen." Mandi Cox
